You have probably heard about it: a consumer collective. A collective health insurance for example. You can usually only join the collective through an employer. This is almost impossible for individuals. This is why United Consumers is a consumer collective for everyone. United Consumers offers you benefit on your health insurance, car insurance, energy, mobile subscription and fuel. The company buys products & services in bulk which allows them to get discounts. These discounts are then directly transferred to the offers.

This depends on your situation. For example, if you’ve recently accepted a job offer and do not have Dutch health insurance yet, your starting date will be the same date as the date your contract becomes valid.
For all offers, Zorgverzekeraar Bewuzt (the health insurance company) pays the bill for your healthcare costs directly to the contracted care provider. You do not have to incur any costs. With the budget offer, you receive up to a 100% reimbursement of costs from healthcare providers with a contract & up to 70% reimbursement of costs from healthcare providers without a contract. With the standard offer, you receive up to a 100% reimbursement of costs from healthcare providers with a contract & up to 80% reimbursement of costs from healthcare providers without a contract. With the premium offer, you receive up to a 100% reimbursement of costs from healthcare providers with a contract & up to 100% reimbursement of costs from healthcare providers without a contract.
A premium is a periodic payment to your health insurance company, in order to keep your insurance coverage active.
With your basic insurance, you have a compulsory deductible (own risk). Up to this amount you have to pay the healthcare costs you make yourself. Almost all health care that reimburses the basic package of your health insurance is covered by your own risk; this includes operations and emergency care in the hospital and also your medicines.
A supplementary insurance for healthcare is an insurance for the healthcare costs that are not included in the basic health insurance package. For example, dental care for people aged 18 and older, coverage for recovery, spa and resort resorts or extensive cover for physiotherapy.
The additional insurance consists of physiotherapy (fisiotherapie), alternative care (alternative zorg), glasses & contacts (brillen en lenzen), birth control (anticonceptie). Each of the options (good, better & best) has a different level of these services.
The dental insurance consists of dental cost coverage (tandartskosten), which includes periodic inspection (periodieke controle) and reimbursement for other treatments (vergoeding overige behandelingen). Additionally, it consists of orthodontics (orthodontie).
Insurances are a must-have when you are in college. Especially as an international student studying in the Netherlands. Not only are student insurance plans practical, but in some cases, they’re mandatory. College Life knows what students need; the best insurances, for any type of situation.
If you are looking to work, you’ll need to make sure to get basic Dutch health insurance. Dutch law actually dictates that you need to have health insurance. This is the case no matter what type of job you are doing or for how many hours you work. A lot of Dutch insurers provide great healthcare coverage. Many allow you to customise your insurance package so that you are covered for exactly what you want to be covered for, and nothing more. Some even have specific student insurance plans. Health insurance is also important for your regular doctor or general practitioner visits.
Insurances are always a good idea. For instance, getting home contents insurance is a must if you have expensive electronics or live in a student apartment. Many insurers have specific student insurance plans just for home contents. Moreover, legal aid, travel and even liability insurances are important to consider. If you are ever in an accident, you want to make sure you can get covered for liability and avoid the high costs that might come as a consequence. Luckily, many insurers provide such student insurance.
