How can I apply for housing and healthcare allowances?

After calculating an estimate of how much allowance you are eligible for using our calculator, you can apply for the allowance through College Life. We will verify that all your information is correct and indicate the exact amount you are eligible for. We will also answer any questions that you might have about allowances, since most of the information provided by the tax authorities is in Dutch. For this service, a one-time fee of €59 is charged to process your application from start to finish - this way, you’ll have your application filed quickly and accurately.

What if I am not eligible – will I get my money back?

We will be responsible for correctly processing your application. For this service, we charge a small fee. However, given the large number factors that may affect your eligibility, we do not take any responsibility for your allowance application being accepted. For this reason, you are will not receive a refund in the event that your application has been processed by our certified financial consultant, and has been rejected by the tax authorities.

What if I change my mind prior to the final confirmation – will I get my money back?

Yes, you will receive a 100% refund if you notify us that you have changed your mind. You must do so prior to sending your documents to our certified financial consultant.  Once you send your documents to our certified financial consultant, you are not eligible for a refund anymore. 

Can I receive an allowance also for the months prior the application?

Yes, you can receive money for months before your application - starting from the day your rental agreement or health insurance starts.

How can the healthcare allowance tool help me?

What is healthcare allowance (zorgtoeslag)?

Dutch health insurance is compulsory for residents in the Netherland. Since it can be quite expensive, the government offers a compensation for the costs of the basic healthcare insurance.

What are the basic healthcare allowance requirements?

To qualify for the healthcare allowance, you have to meet these requirements:

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You have a BSN number.
  • You have a Dutch health insurance.
  • You have an EU nationality or residence permit.
  • Your earnings are below the threshold.
What are the income requirements?

The Dutch tax authorities distinguish between being single and having a fiscal partner (toeslagpartner). The income requirements are the following:

  • Single: gross income < EUR 27,857 per year, savings < EUR 107,752.
  • With a fiscal partner: collective income < EUR 35,116 per year, collective savings < EUR 132,752.
What is the amount of healthcare allowance?

How do I apply for healthcare allowance?

What are the required documents for healthcare allowance?

To use our healthcare allowance tool, you will only need your BSN number. All other required documents will be requested at a later stage.

How will I receive healthcare benefit?

The benefit will not be deducted from your health insurance costs. You will pay the full health insurance amount and receive healthcare benefit separately from the Dutch Tax office.

What additional documents should I prepare?

To file your application you will need to prepare your ID / Passport and your BSN (Social Service Number from the Municipality).
